5 TIPS FOR DECORATING A COSY AND HARMONIOUS DINING AREA

Create harmony at the dining table

Do you want to create a warmer and more inviting feeling in the kitchen or dining room? We guide you on how to transform the dining area into a harmonious oasis with the right furniture, lighting and details.

CREATE SPACE FOR TOGETHERNESS

The dining area is the heart of the home – a place where we socialise, eat and share life’s special moments. By furnishing a cosy dining area that feels warm and inviting, you create an environment where family and friends are happy to stay for a long time. Here we share our best tips on how to create a pleasant and harmonious dining area.

1. CHOOSE A DINING SET THAT CREATES BALANCE

The dining set is the central part of the dining area. With a dining table and chairs that harmonise in style and feel, you create a place that feels inviting, where it is easy to socialise and enjoy wonderful moments together.

Let the table’s shape, size and material guide the choice of chairs to create a balanced whole. Feel free to match the type of wood and keep the style cohesive for a calm and well-considered expression. If you have limited space, extendable tables with extension or additional leaves can be a smart way to create extra space when there are more of you, while not taking up unnecessary space in everyday life.

2. SET THE MOOD WITH THE RIGHT LIGHT

A ceiling lamp above the dining table is not only practical, but also serves as a central interior detail that frames the dining area. Preferably choose a lamp that spreads a soft, warm glow.

If the room allows, you can complement it with a smaller table lamp in a window or on a console table to create more points of light at different heights. A few real candles in a beautiful candlestick on the table are the finishing touch and transform the dining area into a place where you will want to stay for a long time.

3. BRING THE ROOM TO LIFE WITH GREENERY

A vase with fresh flowers on the table or a green plant in the window is a simple way to bring life into the room. Bringing nature indoors creates a harmonious feeling and makes the dining area feel more vibrant.

Feel free to adapt the plants to the season – in summer, a bouquet of oxeye daisies can add lightness and brightness, while spruce twigs and winter flowers create a warm and cosy atmosphere during the colder months of the year.

4. FRAME AND SOFTEN WITH A RUG

A rug under the table makes the dining area cosy and inviting, while also creating a natural boundary in the room. The textile also helps to dampen sound, which makes it even more pleasant to converse around the table.

Preferably choose a rug that is large enough for the chairs to be pulled out without getting caught on the edge, or ending up outside it when they are pulled out.

Tip: If you want to enhance the harmony, you can let the shape of the rug mirror the table – a round table goes well with a round rug, while a rectangular table looks best on an oblong rug.

5. CREATE STYLE AND ORDER WITH STORAGE

A display cabinet or sideboard is the perfect piece of furniture to give the dining area a more homely expression. In addition to contributing to a harmonious whole, it creates practical storage close to the table – perfect for your favourite china, linen napkins or the fine glasses you like to bring out for dinner.

On top of the furniture, you also get an extra surface to decorate with a beautiful vase or a personal still life. You can also hang a picture or mirror above to create height and give the room more character. It is an easy way to make the dining area both practical and cosy.
