What all variants have in common is that they offer significantly more seating than a standard sofa of the same width, and that they naturally frame a room and create a clear furnishing layout.

It gathers the family in one place, creates a natural focal point in the room and uses the floor space efficiently — especially in rooms with a distinct corner along one wall. Compared with the combination of a 3-seater sofa and an armchair, the corner sofa often provides more seating in a more compact area.

However, there are a few things to bear in mind. A corner sofa is more difficult to move if you want to rearrange the furniture, and in a small room it can quickly take up too much space if the size is not matched to the room’s dimensions. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT CORNER SOFA FOR THE LIVING ROOM?

Start by measuring the room carefully. A corner sofa needs at least 90–100 cm of free passage in front of and around it for the room to feel open and functional. Also consider on which side the chaise longue or the open end should be — stand in the room and look around: if you want the chaise longue to be on the left when you are sitting on the sofa, you choose a left-hand model.

Then think about how the sofa will be used. Is it a sofa for daily relaxation and film nights, or is it mainly used when entertaining and having guests? This affects how deep a seat depth you should choose and how firm the padding should be. A deeper and softer corner sofa is more comfortable for longer periods in a semi-reclining position, while a firmer and shallower model is better suited if you often sit upright and socialise.
