Wall colours and panels
THE WALLS CREATE THE ATMOSPHERE
Creating harmony in the home largely involves establishing a solid foundation. Consider carefully the choice of materials and colour for floors and walls, as these are the foundation that should integrate seamlessly with furniture and decor.
CHOOSING WALL PAINT, OR PANELS?
It's not just paint that can be chosen for the walls of a room; today, there are many other smart materials that can be used on a wall, such as acoustic panels. It's stylish to create an accent wall with an acoustic panel and then paint the remaining walls in a colour that harmonizes. When choosing acoustic panels and wall paint, one should consider how they will harmonize with the flooring, furniture, and other decor.
TEST PAINT BEFORE DECIDING
When you've decided on a wall colour, there are usually a plethora of different shades available, so a good tip is to test paint a small area to see how it turns out. Colours often appear darker at home than they do in the store. By test painting, you have the chance to see how the color changes at different times of the day and whether it matches the floor, paneling, and furniture in the room.
It's also advisable to ask store staff for advice and then borrow material samples to test at home. If you're also planning to change the flooring, tiles, and textiles, bring samples of these as well. Then, you can calmly look, plan, create a mood board, and consider at home. If the initial samples don't work out, don't hesitate to bring home new ones — don't rush your decision.
OUR CHOICE FOR THE WALLS
When renovating or building new, we believe it's important to think of the whole picture. This is something we did together with the interior design company Frank Deco during the renovation of our showroom in Stockholm. We chose three colours for the space plus a grey-toned oak floor and Woodup acoustic panel; the most important thing is that the colours match.
Since we have white-pigmented, black, brown, and natural oak-coloured furniture, it was a challenge to make everything harmonize. We chose a wood floor with a slight grey tone, and it has worked very well with all the colours. The colour on the walls eventually settled on three colours from Jotun; Light Sand, Modern Beige, and Chalk.
All three colours harmonize together and work with the colours of our furniture. Light Sand was chosen closest to the acoustic panel in walnut from Woodupp, and it looked fantastic.
