DIY – CREATE YOUR OWN VASE
CREATE A PERSONAL AND INDIVIDUAL VASE
Have a shabby vase or pot at home that you’re tired of? Then we’ll show you a simple way to freshen it up with a little clay and paint.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Air-dried clay
- An old vase or pot
- A rolling pin
- Tools for texturing
- Acrylic paint
WHAT TO DO
Wash your pot thoroughly so that the clay will stick properly. Then roll out the clay, but not too thin because you want to make designs in it later. Wrap the clay carefully round the pot and cut it so you have straight edges. This makes it easier to add the next piece.
Roll out a new piece of clay and stick it on until you’ve covered the entire pot. You can use a little water to smooth out the joins and any other uneven spots in the clay.
Use an implement with a round handle and make a pattern in the clay. Be creative and create different patterns. Use your imagination!
Happy with your vase? Or maybe you want to paint it? We painted ours using acrylic paint, but if you have any wood paint or similar at home, that will work just as well. We painted a small section at a time and then wiped off some of the paint before it dried to give a uniform result. We then added in a little black paint to make it even more vibrant. Try painting several coats and experiment with different colours. Once you’re happy with the result, leave it to dry and you’ll have an attractive vase to put on your sideboard, in your display cabinet or on your dining table for meals!
