HOW TO FURNISH THE GUEST ROOM
Create a welcoming guest room
A guest room is more than just a place to sleep – make your guests feel truly well taken care of. With the right furnishings you can create a warm and inviting environment, while still allowing the room to function in everyday life. Here we share tips on what is good to have in a guest room and how you can combine it with a home office.
WHAT SHOULD BE IN A GUEST ROOM?
When you furnish a guest room, it is good to see the room from the guest’s perspective: What would you yourself appreciate if you stayed over at someone’s home? In addition to an inviting place to sleep, it is about creating an environment where the guest can feel at home. Small, well-considered details can make a big difference.
BEDSIDe TABLES – BOTH FUNCTION AND FEELING
A bedside table gives the guest their own little place for things like glasses, a book or a glass of water. Wall-mounted bedside tables are an especially clever solution as they take up less space, create a sense of roominess and feel airy, particularly in smaller guest rooms. Feel free to decorate the bedside table with a small plant or a scented candle for a personal and thoughtful touch.
STORAGE THAT MAKES LIFE EASIER
Good storage creates order and harmony and makes the guest room both calm and inviting. A chest of drawers is perfect for storing extra sheets and blankets and gives the guest a place to unpack their things if they are staying a little longer. A hook rack allows the guest to hang up clothes and bags without them ending up on the floor.
A MIRROR THAT ELEVATES THE GUEST ROOM
A mirror is a thoughtful detail in the guest room and gives the guest a place to get ready for the day. At the same time, mirrors do more than just be practical – they capture the light in the room and can make smaller spaces feel larger and airier. A wall mirror or a free-standing mirror can also become a beautiful interior detail that ties the room’s style together and creates a harmonious whole.
TIPS ON DETAILS THAT MAKE THE GUEST ROOM COSY
To create a cohesive feel in the guest room, it is often the small choices that make the biggest difference. When choosing curtains, blackout curtains can be a good option, as they allow the guest to shut out the light and sleep really well. Also consider the lighting – in addition to a ceiling lamp, smaller light sources such as a table lamp can create a soft and pleasant light in the evening.
Put the finishing touch with personal details, such as a soft throw, green plants or a small vase with flowers to give the room a warm and welcoming feel. It is often precisely these thoughtful details that make guests feel at home.
COMBINE GUEST ROOM WITH OFFICE
A guest room is often not used every day, which is why it is smart to let it serve several functions. By combining guest room and home office, you get a room that is both welcoming and practical for everyday life.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT DESK
A practical, preferably slightly more compact desk ensures that the room retains its inviting feel even when it is not used as a home office. A desk with a drawer also provides easy storage for items such as laptop, notebook and pens, which keeps the room neat and stylish. Preferably choose a desk in a style that harmonises with the rest of the interior, so that it feels like a natural part of the room.
DO NOT FORGET A GOOD CHAIR
Choose a chair that is both comfortable to work in and attractive enough to fit into the guest room. An upholstered armchair with swivel and rocking function can be a good compromise, as it is comfortable to sit in for longer periods. At the same time, it is elegant enough to feel like part of the interior, rather than a typical office chair.
