GIVE YOUR WOODEN FURNITURE A GOOD PLACE

Wood is a beautiful and very much living natural material, whose appearance and size are affected by light, temperature and humidity. Fine cracks between joined wooden parts may occur and are a result of the material moving, which is completely normal.

To minimise the risk of cracks and movement, it is important that the furniture is placed in an environment with an even temperature and humidity. Do not place the furniture in direct sunlight and make sure that the entire wooden surface is exposed to the same amount of light, otherwise there is a risk of colour variations on the surface.

For dining tables, do not forget to insert the extension or additional leaf at regular intervals, so that it can mature in line with the rest of the table.

 

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PIGMENTED OILED WOODEN FURNITURE

• Oiled surfaces shall be treated with a transparent oil before use and then regularly 2-3 times per year or as needed. This applies especially to the table top, in order to maintain resistance to stains and scratches.

• Clean with a well-wrung soft cloth containing only water or a mild soap solution. Always wipe dry afterwards with a dry cloth.

• Temperature and humidity affect how wood shrinks and swells. This may cause doors, legs, drawers and extension leaves to vary in fit. You should therefore regularly adjust and retighten screws and fittings.

• If you have got damage, such as a water ring or another stain, we recommend using a pigmented oil, matching the shade of the table, over the entire table surface. Do not forget extension leaves, as the colour will naturally change somewhat. Always make a test treatment on a non-visible surface. Follow the instructions from the respective furniture care supplier.

GOOD TO KEEP IN MIND IN EVERYDAY LIFE

  • Our furniture is intended for indoor use only.
  • Always protect the furniture from sharp, cold and hot objects, strong solvents and moisture. All types of liquids, such as water, coffee and wine, must be wiped off immediately.
  • For tables, preferably use coasters to protect the surface.
  • Avoid pushing the furniture or lifting it by the top panel, doors or drawers, as there is a risk of damaging the furniture.
  • Always protect the furniture from rapid changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Do not place the furniture against or near a heat source.
  • Be careful when using coloured candles or tape on the furniture.
  • Do not use strong chemicals, alcohol or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the surface.
  • When oiling, take care to protect textiles and wallpaper.

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT PIGMENTED OILED FURNITURE

  • An oiled piece of furniture may benefit from being oiled with colourless furniture oil before first use. If this applies to your table, you will find information in the enclosed care instructions. During storage and transport, the surface may have dried out, which means that the wood can absorb moisture and risk getting stains and cracks. Try doing a drop test when unpacking.

    • The table should be oiled 3-4 times per year or as needed.

    • To test whether the table needs oiling, drop a small amount of water on the surface. If the water droplet is absorbed, it is time for a new treatment.

    • Always use coasters for glasses and vases to protect the surface.

  • A simple way to check this is by doing a drop test.

    1. Place a drop of water on the table surface.
    2. Wait for about 1 minute.

    If the drop remains = The table is still saturated with oil and does not need a new treatment.

    If the drop is absorbed into the wood = The surface is dry and needs to be oiled again.

  • Wood is a living material and sensitive to moisture, regardless of surface treatment.

    • Spills should always be wiped up immediately.

    • Avoid leaving moisture under tablecloths, placemats or coasters.

    • Regular treatment with colourless furniture oil or the recommended surface treatment for each table type reduces the risk of damage.

  • If you have got a dent in the top of your whitewashed oiled table, you can proceed in two ways.

    ALTERNATIVE 1: SAND IT AWAY
    Start by sanding down the entire table. Then oil the entire table with whitewashed oil.
     
    ALTERNATIVE 2: USE WOOD FILLER
    Another option is to use wood filler that can be applied where the damage has occurred. Leather Master has repair kits, but you can also check with the paint shop if they have any repair kits.

    1. The freezing method: Place an ice cube in a plastic bag and hold it against the wax. When it has hardened, carefully try to lift it off with a plastic card.

    2. The heat method: Place a paper towel over the wax and gently heat with an iron until it is absorbed.

  • Yes, we recommend that you regularly check and retighten screws and fittings on your furniture, especially during seasonal changes. Wood is a living material that is affected by changes in temperature and humidity, which can cause screws and fittings to loosen slightly over time.
